The Best Month Overall
If you can only pick one month, July is the answer for sheer spectacle — the combination of blue whale density, calm seas, and long summer days is unmatched. But if whale diversity matters more than individual whale size, April and May offer the chance to see gray whale mothers and calves alongside the first humpbacks of summer — a genuinely rare double-season overlap.
Dolphins Year-Round
One of the most exciting constants across all twelve months is Southern California’s extraordinary dolphin population. Common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and Pacific white-sided dolphins are present throughout the year and frequently approach Harbor Breeze vessels to bowride — sometimes in super-pods of hundreds or even thousands of individuals.
